A hole punch

We're ready for the first day of home educating tomorrow. The computers are set up, the worksheets are printed off, I've bought lever arch folders, glue sticks, maths sets, rulers, exercise books, text books, and a hole punch...

This latter item confused the children greatly.

"What's that?"

"A hole punch."

"What's a hole punch?"

"What do you mean? It's a hole punch! How can you not know what a hole punch is?!"

"What does it do?"

"What do you think it does?"

"Does it punch?"

A demonstration of a hole punch followed this conversation, which J and L found absolutely fascinating. They were both squabbling over having turns with it. I can't believe these children have never heard of a hole punch. Granted we haven't really had one around the house before, but have they never seen one in school? L is almost 15... how can a 15 year old be so baffled by a hole punch?

I might have understood if it were some very obscure technical piece of equipment, but for goodness sake it's just a hole punch.

Maybe I've been spoiling them with too many plastic wallets. No more unnecessary expenditure - the hole punch is here to stay.

RESULTS!!

Well, we're in the thick of the summer holidays, (sort of, because lessons have been continuing in a fashion throughout July and August....
