Half Term Holidays

You may have noticed a certain absence of blog posts for a while. Well, what can I say? It was half term, which I think everyone was in need of.

We did a few fun things. First of all we returned to the West Midlands Safari Park, and this time we bought some animal food and fed some of the animals. Despite the jokes about feeding the kids to the carnivores, we sensibly stuck to feeding the animals which weren't likely to take chunks out of flesh 😅

The only child who didn't want to feed the animals was A. I'm not sure why - I think he was nervous although he didn't admit it.

On our return, J wrote a nice piece about his trip to the safari and how he enjoyed feeding the animals.

I'll include a rare photo of me now. I suppose it's only right that you know who is writing this blog! This is me - mother of four, blogger extraordinaire 😉

A few days later I taught N how to play backgammon, at his request.

In other news, we did a fair amount of activities for Halloween. I kept thinking all week that Halloween was on Friday, so we had a lot of things planned for Friday. Turns out I was horribly wrong, because Halloween was on Saturday!

Regardless, we had a fun day of pumpkin carving. Slight photo overload now... let's say it makes up for a full week of no updates! The children designed their own faces, and they even carved them themselves (I helped N with his carving.)

After that we did baking. Despite the fact that we had clearly hollowed out the pumpkins, we opted to use tins of pureed pumpkin, as the pumpkins the children had were not culinary pumpkins.

We made pumpkin and chocolate chip muffins, and had enough mix left over for a cake. All the kids had a turn.

They were absolutely delicious, I must admit. We're still finishing off the cake today, three days later!

Halloween itself was a bit arts and crafty. I downloaded some paper craft and colouring-in sheets from Twinkl, and the children had fun making paper pumpkins, skulls, teeth, and mummies.

We also watched the new remake of The Witches. It was okay, I can't say I was ever an enormous fan on the original anyway, but it was watchable.

In the evening we put the Jack O' Lanterns outside. They looked spooky and cool lit up. Unfortunately it was very windy so they didn't stay lit for long, but just enough for me to take a photo.

In other news, N is getting quite good at French. He can count up to 40, can sing "head, shoulders, knees, and toes", and knows a few vocabulary words.

Today A and L are back in their lessons, but J and N would have had an inset day if they were still at school, so they're having the day off whilst I plan their work for the rest of the week.

Voila, c'est ca!

RESULTS!!

Well, we're in the thick of the summer holidays, (sort of, because lessons have been continuing in a fashion throughout July and August....
