A's lessons at InterHigh went... well... as you'd expect, with one exception that he was a little late to his History lesson on Tuesday as I had to take him to the doctor's surgery. Turns out he has an ear infection, poor kid. He's now on Amoxicillin. Otherwise no bother.
He's really not loving Computer Science or Creative Pursuits though - I half wish I hadn't signed him up to Creative Pursuits as it's not really a super important subject; I could have been teaching him Classical Civilisation or something instead with that time, as he seems to like History. I guess we'll see how it goes over the course of this term.
L is cracking on with her subjects. It's a bit hard for me to monitor her progress with her IGCSE courses as she does her courses online and makes her own flash cards. She says she could do with a Physics textbook for quick reference so I think I'll order her one. Yes, all her subject material is already there included in her courses, but I guess it's a bit hard to sieve through things to find a specific formula for example when required. She's doing very well with her Class Civ though.
J and N started on some I.T. lessons on Monday with their dad as mentioned previously. Computer stuff - I'm useless at this kind of thing. Thankfully their dad used to work with computers back in the day, so he cracked out a laptop and got them both to grips with the basics of under-the-hood of a P.C. so to speak.
Speaking of computer type stuff, J's 3D doughnut in Blender is coming along amazingly. It's not finished yet, but look at how awesome it is!
My mam got the kids some excellent workbooks from Home Bargains which they've been working their way through, and a great pop-out times table chart thing which they've both been making good use of.
J is familiar with all his times tables, he just needs practice. N is only just starting with them though. They both enjoy the novelty of popping out the "answers" and putting them back into the chart in the correct order.
I ordered some stickers for the piano to make it easier to start teaching them, which I've now stuck to the keys. I never had anything like this when I was a kid. They do look quite handy for beginners though.
That brings us to Thursday (yesterday) which was the start of the birthday twofer, as J turned 11.
We had an excellent day at the West Midlands Safari Park. The animals came right up to the car and most of us were even able to stroke some camels.
Sorry for the photo overload but it's too hard to choose favourites! We all loved the day, and it meant that J and N were able today to draw pictures of the animals they saw at the Safari Park, and they both wrote some nice paragraphs about their day out. We tied a little education into a fun day out!
I was exhausted though, it was almost 2.5 hours drive each way, plus 2 hours drive around the Safari, so I was driving for around 7 hours! It was worth it though, we all had a great day.
Today was day two of the birthday twofer, as L turned 15.
I had to drive to Sheffield's Meadowhall to pick up her cookie cake. I haven't been into Meadowhall since all this pandemic kicked off in March, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was really disappointing to see so many people with their masks underneath their noses or under their chins... meanwhile there I was looking like a toxicologist with both a face mask and a face shield.
She's going to be studying tomorrow as well as next Saturday to make up for losing two days worth of studying.
We're having takeaway shortly and watching a film on telly; birthday girl's choice.
Thus concludes Week Three of home education.
